Two of the groundwater wells in the Town of Spiceland’s water system were threatened with failure and the third well was not producing enough water to keep up with daily demand. In December 2012, Spiceland officials connected their water system with the City of New Castle’s water distribution system. However, because of the hydraulic differences between the two systems, it was urgent that the Spiceland team install a booster station to fill their elevated water storage tank to maintain pressure and fire protection in the system.
Wessler provided preparation of study, survey, design, bid, construction administration, and inspection services so Town officials could get the new booster station online ASAP. The new booster station includes an above-ground building with water booster pumps and a re-chlorination room. Wessler utilized the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM)’s “Notice of Decision” process and received construction approval of the designed project within 8 days. The project was released to selected contractors for quotes to further expedite construction of the booster station. The project was awarded at a construction cost of $255,000.
