We had the pleasure of joining officials and representatives from the Village of Holgate, City of Napoleon, Ohio EPA, and other project partners to celebrate an important milestone for Holgate’s water regionalization project.
The project has secured significant funding assistance, including a $1 million H2Ohio grant and an additional $4 million in principal forgiveness through Ohio EPA’s Water Supply Revolving Loan Account (WSRLA) program. For several years, Holgate has been evaluating options to address water quality issues and provide a reliable, long-term water solution for the community while addressing its water system needs in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Faced with options including advanced water treatment improvements and regionalization alternatives, the Village had multiple options to consider.
Regionalization presented its own questions: Who should Holgate partner with? What would it cost? And what improvements would be needed to make it work?
That’s where careful planning and collaboration became especially important. We worked with Holgate to evaluate the available alternatives and coordinate with multiple potential regional partners. Through that process, connecting to the City of Napoleon was identified as the preferred approach for providing Holgate with a reliable, cost-effective, long-term water supply.
The project includes:
- Approximately 9 miles of water main connecting Holgate and Napoleon
- A new booster station to convey water between the communities
- Improvements to Holgate’s existing water treatment facilities
We also assisted Holgate in pursuing funding for the project. The resulting $5 million in grant and principal-forgiveness assistance significantly reduces the financial burden on the community and has been instrumental in allowing this regional solution to move forward.
Construction is underway, with the approximately 9-mile water main expected to be completed by September 2027.
Congratulations to the Village of Holgate, and thank you to the City of Napoleon, Ohio EPA, H2Ohio, and the other partners who helped make this important regional project possible. We’re proud to be part of an effort that represents a significant long-term investment in Holgate’s water system and the community it serves.
