Back to All Drinking Water Distribution

Water Main Extensions

Carmel, Indiana

Seven years prior to this project, the City of Carmel acquired the customers, water distribution system and the majority of water transmission mains in the western portion of the municipality. Since that time, Carmel officials have transitioned customers from Citizen’s Water to Carmel Water.

Wessler Engineering was brought on board as one of the partners to work with Carmel city officials with the Wessler-Carmel portion of the project involving water main extension improvements, including water main installations in unserved areas of West Carmel (Division A) and water main extensions in the Home Place section of the city (Division B).

Division A work included installation of:

  • approximately 2,500 feet of eight-inch
  • 85 feet of 10-inch
  • 105 feet of 12-inch ductile iron water mains
  • approximately 2,100 feet of eight-inch
  • approximately 5,500 feet of 10-inch
  • approximately 3,100 feet of 12-inch and
  • 750 feet of 18-inch high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe.

In addition to the HDPE water main, related fittings, hydrants, valves, water services, pavement repair, and appurtenances completed the installation.

Division B work included the same fittings, hydrants, etc. as Division A, with the installation of:

  • approximately 17,800 feet of eight-inch
  • 40 feet of 10-inch
  • 765 feet of 12-inch
  • 225 feet of 16-inch ductile iron water main
  • approximately 3,300 feet of eight-inch
  • approximately 6,200 feet of 10-inch
  • 1,500 feet of 12-inch and approximately 1,300 feet of 18-inch HDPE water main.
