Wastewater Collection System Improvements

The project included the evaluation of the entire wastewater collection system and wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) and development of a Capital Improvements Plan to correct the inflow and infiltration (I/I) problems in the collection system and recommend improvements at the WWTP. By implementing the I/I Reduction Plan developed by Wessler, the Town was able to eliminate Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO’s) and significantly reduce the wet weather flows. This resulted in substantial financial savings. In a four year period, the number of customers increased by 10% while the average daily flows remained relatively constant even during wet weather. Wessler also assisted in acquiring over $3 million in grant funding.
